The Climate Counts Industry Innovators program reflects a different way of doing business. While it may not be for every company, it is designed to be useful to companies at many stages of evolving corporate climate leadership. What’s important is that what results from i2 is a deeper and more mutually beneficial connection between consumers and companies around climate solutions.

How does my company participate in i2?

The first step is simple: use this site to register and take the online version of our scorecard as a self-assessment. This self-assessment is designed to give you and your company an initial snapshot of your climate leadership. It should give your team an opportunity to do an initial, high-level review of those efforts and initiatives your company has in place to reduce its company-wide carbon output. With a self-assessment, you will have a useful benchmark and starting point for internal discussions about how to strengthen your carbon management strategy. However, you are not authorized to use the results of your self-assessment publicly in any form.

A low score on the self-assessment might be seen as a call to action for your company.

A high score, on the other hand, should motivate you in a different way. It is an opportunity to reach engaged consumers who need to see credible examples in the marketplace of companies that share their own commitment to the climate crisis.

The second available step in the Climate Counts i2 process is to request a formal score by Climate Counts, in keeping with the same process that Climate Counts has used to evaluate nearly 150 other companies over the past three years. This service, now offered by Climate Counts to any company, involves a comprehensive review by our skilled and experienced research team of the publicly accessible materials on your company’s climate performance. We use this research to complete a preliminary score of your company.

After a reconciliation step, Climate Counts is then able to provide companies with a formal score – good for one year – that they are encouraged to use publicly. Companies whose final, formal score exceeds 50 points (on our 0-to-100 point scale) are invited to become “Climate Counts Industry Innovators.” Climate Counts makes a variety of tools available to companies who earn this designation.
